TODAY'S DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE ON PRUDENCE
Saturday, 26 April 2025
It is not that you are to live without sin, but rather grow from your sins into a holy being.

People can never and will never be perfect. It is unrealistic to expect people to live like Puritans, especially in the modern age. Instead, it’s important to adapt to the times while upholding Christian faith in a Godly way.
You can still practice traditional Christian values in today’s climate, but you must shift your perspective a little bit to do so.
Childlike Faith vs Practical Wisdom
For example, there is a lot of misconceptions surrounding prudence. As C.S Lewis put it, “Prudence means practical common sense, taking the trouble to think out what you are doing and what is likely to come of it.”
Nowadays most people hardly think of Prudence as one of the cardinal virtues. In fact, because Christ said we could only get into His world by being like children, many Christians have the idea that, provided you are ‘good’, it does not matter being a fool. But that is a misunderstanding.
In the first place, most children show plenty of ‘prudence’ about doing the things they are really interested in and think them out quite sensibly.
In the second place, as St. Paul points out, Christ never meant that we were to remain children in intelligence. On the contrary, He told us to be not only “as harmless as doves, but also as wise as serpents”. He wants a child’s heart, but a grown-up’s head.
So, simply put, to be a prudent Christian you simply must practice common sense.
The Simple Path to Godliness
Prudence is the most rational way of being. You save yourself a lot of grief as a prudent Christian. Communication is key in your daily life, and prudent Christians are masters of communication.
Prudent Christians even have a knack for communicating with non Christians! You already know the things that you should and shouldn’t say or do, so it smooths the lines of communication across all parties.
Prudence tends to not feel forced to those who practice it. In fact, it opens many doors, because it allows you to become wiser with little effort.
Applying prudence to your daily routines is one of the easiest ways to add godliness to your life.
Reflect on these words today
Every prudent man acts out of knowledge, but a fool exposes his folly.
— Proverbs 13:16
The end of all things is near. Therefore be clear minded and self-controlled so that you can pray.
— Peter 4:7
