You are called to live wisely. Thus, it is critical for you to surround yourself with good counsel.
You are called to live wisely. Thus, it is critical for you to surround yourself with good counsel. Do not be like self-willed people who do what they like. Wise people take advice.
You all need wise counsel at any particular moment in your life. Nobody can afford to live without advice. However, pride gets in the way for most people. You are being deprived of the wisdom that comes from others because of the barriers from your heart.
Walk With the Wise
Good life and great leadership require good advice. Famous businessmen did not accomplish everything on their own. These people surrounded themselves with experts to ensure the success of their business.
If you remember the story of Joseph the dreamer, the Pharaoh during his time required his wise counsel in preparation for the seven years of famine that threatened their land. He could have not done it without the wisdom I have bestowed on Joseph.
Moses, on the other hand, was the person I chose to lead the escape of the Israelites, My chosen people from the hands of the Egyptians. His father-in-law Jethro saw the overwhelming tasks he needed to do every day. So, he told Moses that what he was doing wasn’t the right way. Jethro had given Moses good advice to choose good men whom he can trust to do part of his job.
Both Moses and the Pharaoh listened to the wise counsel that was given to them. They humbly accepted the instruction. Evidently, both of them were spared for the potential ruin that may happen if they did not listen.
Challenging situations are inevitable and having wise counsel will prepare you for any potential problem that you may encounter in the future. You can see from the story, discord can be prevented for those who take and accepts wisdom to heart.
The Gift of Wisdom
Many will tell you to surround yourself with like-minded people. As for Me, I want you to walk with wise men. I have blessed you with the gift of fellowship so that you will surround yourself with a group of people who pattern themselves to My word - the scripture.
Remember, you do not have the monopoly of wisdom despite your age and experience. That is why I have sent you people as a gift whether it is your spouse, mentor, pastor, coworker, or friend. Humble yourself before Me and learn to listen to advice. Hold tight to good counsel for this will not lead you to blind alleys.
Most importantly, I want you to ask for discernment. It is important that you have the ability to know what I approve of and what I disapprove of. My Spirit will give the gift to discern and recognize the difference between a good counsel that comes from Me and those that are from this world.
You will know if it is from Me if the counsel is gentle and reasonable, overflowing with mercy and blessings, and not two-faced. The only way you can identify these things is only when you saturate yourself with My word and if you consistently seek for the truth that comes from Me. Be keen and do not be deceived by pretentious good advice.
Beloved, listen to good advice if you want to live well. Great people learn wisdom from others.
Reflect on these words today
Better was a poor and wise youth than an old and foolish king who no longer knew how to take advice.
— Ecclesiastes 4:13
Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors, there is safety.
— Proverbs 11:14
